Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant Project belongs to Quang Trach Electricity Center, invested by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN). This is an EPC package by a consortium of 3 contractors: Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan); Hyundai E&C (Korea) and CC1 constructed.
Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant Project includes 2 units, total capacity of 1403MW, when put into operation, it will help ensure energy security; contributing to socio-economic development, increasing budget revenue for Quang Binh province, creating jobs for people in the area.
Starting construction in December 2021, to date, the overall project progress has reached 61,05%. However, the process of implementing projects of Quang Trach Power Center in general and Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant Project in particular still faces some obstacles. Specifically, items that are still stuck in the compensation and site clearance work include cooling water receiving channels, coal conveyors and cooling water discharge pipes, fresh water supply pipelines, slag disposal sites, and factory premises. To ensure project completion progress, the Investor recommends that the Prime Minister direct the People's Committee of Quang Binh province to continue supporting and speeding up the progress of compensation and site clearance, especially within the scope of the project. Fresh water pipes, resettlement arrangements and waste dump planning; Direct relevant ministries and branches to continue to support and create conditions for EVN during project implementation.
Inspecting the actual construction work at the construction site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and praised Vietnam Electricity Group, Power Project Management Board 2, CC1 and the Contractor Consortium, especially the forces participating in the construction. The workers on the construction site tried their best, working day and night, throughout the day and off, especially during the extremely harsh weather period in Quang Binh province, during the peak hot season. The Prime Minister requested the investor, CC1 and the contractor consortium to arrange a reasonable construction time, increase 3 shifts and 4 crews to shorten the progress and generate electricity for the first time on August 30, 2025. Noting the results achieved so far of the Project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested EVN, Power Project Management Board 2, CC1 and the Contractor Consortium to continue their efforts, concentrate all resources, and research solutions. further accelerate the construction progress to bring the project into commercial operation as planned.
